  • A longtime premiere dive site and fishing location, we feel strongly about protecting this local area. In 2022, we "adopted" this site under the PADI AWARE Adopt The Blue conservation program.

Nestled in Shinnecock Bay, Ponquogue Bridge is a key stronghold for an incredible amount biodiversity. In 2022, Shinnecock Bay was internationally recognized as a "Hope Spot" by Mission Blue.

Years of storms and human activity around this location have led to a pile up of debris. The bridge's currents can also carry/deposit trash, wrap entangling monofilament around pilings, etc. Due to many factors, this zone can be a hotspot for litter and marine life entanglement.

  • A minimum of Open Water Diver. Divers should be current and comfortable in Northeast Conditions, with strong compass skills.

    • Dive guides are limited and available for hire.

Snorkelers are welcome to stay in shallow areas close to shore.

Non-divers are welcome to comb the beach + parking lot for trash as well!

  • SCUBA, Snorkeling, and cutting devices/bags are not provided. Divers should have:

    • cutting devices (line cutter, dive knife, etc)

    • dive gloves

    • a collection bag for debris

  • HDC does not provide Southampton Town Beach Parking Permits. These are purchasable from Southampton Town Parks and Recreation.

  • Using PADI AWARE's Dive Against Debris Map, we can help keep track of litter trends and improvements at this dive site.

  • Divers who participate in the Clean Up Event can get 20% OFF the Dive Against Debris Specialty e-learning until the end of the year!

    About The Course:

“Make a difference on every dive by activating your inner citizen scientist. During the Dive Against Debris® Diver Specialty course, you’ll learn how ocean plastic and trash cleanups not only keep your local dive sites healthier, but also how to contribute to a global database that documents our planet’s marine debris problem. Under the guidance of your instructor, you’ll participate in a Dive Against Debris survey and turn your passion for the underwater world into real action.

Join the PADI Torchbearer™ movement of divers protecting our ocean planet and making every dive count.“
